Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending corner before the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
